A map to find the way: A metaphor for inspiration and change; co-research as a provocation for creating new horizons for educational innovation
Lou Kirkwood has over 25 years’experience working in Early Childhood Education as a Nanny, Educator, Kindergarten Teacher and Pedagogista. Lou is currently the Pedagogista at New Horizons Preschool in Hobart, where she works across two unique campuses. Lou has been fortunate to attend Australian Educational Tours, REAIE Biennial Conferences and Study Tours to Reggio Emilia.
Lou rebels against what she calls ‘deficit models of education’, where children are considered to be ‘lacking’. She strongly believes that children are capable of constructing complex theories about the world, collaborative, participatory and competent. Lou is passionate about deeper listening and pedagogical documentation as an alternative language of assessment, authentically reflecting co-research, possabilities, diversity and complexity in education. Alongside her role as Pedagogista, Lou enjoys sharing her journey with other educators through the New Horizons Professional Learning series. She committed to ethical and political practice as she works alongside children and adults.
